Scarce pair of Scottish wicker pony panniers for carrying shot grouse down from the moors

This pair of late Victorian or early 20th century wicker panniers came from a Scottish estate where they would have been strapped on either side of a pony and used for carrying grouse or other game down from the hills and moors.

These panniers have a super shape, very similar to that of old wicker fishermans baskets and measure 62cms wide by 44 deep and 49 high.

These baskets are in pretty good sound clean condition as the many pics show, though there is the odd piece of wicker missing or broken here and there.

My research indicates that these items are very hard to find though there are a similar pair in the Dumfries Museum see link below...

These panniers offer lots of options for display or use e.g. they would look great in a shootin, huntin and fishin shop either for display or showing off stock, or in a hallway or on either side of a fireplace in a large old country house..

These items are for collection only and must be picked up from our shop in Aberdeenshire. Please contact us before purchasing
