Victoria European ladies figured and ebonised walnut desk with display back
This striking Victorian European ladies desk in figured and ebonised walnut stands on 4 legs, has a pull out writing surface, lots of drawers and a decorative shelved back.
Made around 1880 possibly in Germany or Switzerland this impressive desk has turned tapering legs with 3 decorative drawers above. The original keys for these and all other drawers are available with this item.
The curved slope desk front which has a lock and key lifts and pushes back to reveal the original leather writing surface which is nicely patinated. The writing surface may be pulled forward to work at more easily and to the back of it is a row of drawers....originally 3 but the centre one is missing.
Above the curved slope are a further two decorative drawers with locks and key and above that are two walnut/ebonised shelves with fancy carved tops and sides.
All of the locks are stamped WILH. HAAF presumeably the locksmith.
The desk has many quality features including the carved escutcheons and the quality of workmanship is very high.
The desk is missing one inner drawer, has a split to one of the shelves, a repair to one of the carved sides and a few scrapes and knocks consistent with age but overall is in very good order.
The top shelved part of the desk may be removed for ease of transport.
The desk is quite a neat size being only 97cms wide, 55 deep and 158 high.
